As the translation of the title is something like "Dog Street millionaire," the film also has contradictory elements. The most incredible poverty and the city of dreams to Bollywood: the director wanted to show the reality.
The people of Mumbai were in shock at learning that they were filming in the poorest neighborhoods. They offered to recreate the barracks without the dirt that is in truth (in the real barrack no toilets and people defecate on the floor). Still they recorded in the neighborhoods and that's not too liked the people.
It took the director to find an actor who would be the protagonist, because he was looking for an unfortunate but the guys who are dedicated to the movies in there had a model body.
